Do you need to be a member of the Pool? You must be a member of the Chester Area Pool to be on the swim team. You do not need to live in Chester in order to be a member. You can contact the town on details about joining.
What is the fee for the team? $100 per swimmer
Are there tryouts? Yes, there are tryouts for all new swimmers looking to join the team. As soon as a date for the tryouts is established it will be posed on the TEAM website. Please fill out the Google Form on the website if you have a new swimmer looking to try out.
What is required at tryouts?
8 & Under:1 lap freestyle, 1 lap of a choice stroke (if they know another stroke), tread water for 60 seconds
9/10 Age Group: 2 lap choice warm-up, 1 lap freestyle, 1 lap of a choice stroke, tread water for 60 seconds
11 and over Age Groups: 4 lap warm-up, 2 laps freestyle, 2 laps of a choice stroke, tread water for 60 seconds
**At tryouts we are really looking to see if the swimmer’s abilities will allow them to have enough stamina to be safe during their assigned age group’s practice rather than overall technique and speed.
What is the age range for swimmers on team? For team, we have an age group of 8 & under and swimmers can be on the team up until they are 18 years old. We have had swimmers as young as 6 but tryouts will determine if they are a good fit for our team or recommended for lessons.
***The age the swimmer will be registered as is their age ON June 1st.
Do you still have a preteam? We no longer have a separate pre-team. Our league has restructured some aspects of swim meets to include more events for younger swimmers, so there are no longer other teams in our league with pre-teams to compete against.
How often are the meets and practices? Team has anywhere from 6-8 meets in a season (depending how the dates fall). Meets are on Wednesday evenings and Saturday Mornings and practice everyday except for mornings after a swim meet (usually Thursdays).
What are the meets like? Swimmers are assigned their events. We try to have swimmers swim all events at least once throughout the season but they do not get to choose what they swim. Swimmers can be disqualified for improper strokes and a score if kept for the meet. Meets usually run about 2 hours long.
Do parents need to volunteer? *YES* We do require all parents to volunteer to help the meets run smoothly. The required number of times each family will need to volunteer will depend on the team size. Usually that number is 3 volunteer obligations per family.
Check the website for any dates posted.
